Comix - Part I Behind-The-Scenes

INITIAL SKETCHES

My original plans and sketches for this were jotted down on post-it notes that I then put into a sketchbook I bought for the project. I then worked my way through designing the other characters in the Manor along with other ideas I was having, such as figuring out how I wanted the maid dresses to look for each character, how I wanted different species' hands to look/work and how I want to stylise fear and fire. Along with this, these sketches include a since scrapped Fox character who was going to act as a butler and an ally for the Earl. His character can still potentially be brought back in another way, but I personally like the idea of the Earl being the only antagonist for the time being.

DESIGNING THE MANOR

As I'm not an architectural person, I made the choice to design the general look of the manor and all of the rooms in Minecraft xBox 360 Edition (this is the only version of the game I have access to atm as my current computer cannot run Java). Whilst this obviously isn't exact to how it will appear in the comic, it does give a basic idea to what it should look like methinks.

CHARLES' WRITINGS

For Charles' writings and sketch seen in the first chapter, I did those on actual paper before taking photos and manipulating them into the comic. The writing itself is obscured into swirly gibberish in the actual chapter, although as shown here, you can see that in actuality it was the opening monologue of "The Bee Movie" (2007). This was because it is one of the quotes I repeat often when I can't think of anything to say.

MAKING CORA'S NIGHTGOWN ((Unrelated))

During the making of the first few pages, I had this sudden urge to own Cora's nightgown as something I too could wear as pajamas. And so I began sketching out plans and then went out and bought white cotton fabric that I began to turn into the dress. This project is currently unfinished and still ongoing however, as I have yet to make the sleeves. This is because of a mixture of sewing burnout and moving out of my Uni accomodation. I do plan to continue it though and will update this section when I do :3
